Rate: $16.90 hourly/up to 8 hrs per week 

 

Mission of Student Success Initiatives

Housed within the Division of Undergraduate Education, Student Success Initiatives (SSI) is dedicated to empowering students throughout their academic, professional, and personal endeavors. We provide comprehensive support in these areas to help students thrive at UCI and beyond. Our mission centers on supporting students from historically underrepresented populations including, but not limited to: first-generation students, low-income students, and foster youth. Through our programs and resources, we create opportunities for these students to make fluid academic and social transitions to university life, fostering both productivity and engagement as they pursue their goals at UCI.

 

Position Summary

The SSI Peer Educator role encompasses two components: front desk support  and program support. 

  1. At the front desk, Peer Educators serve as the welcoming face of the office, greeting students and visitors as they arrive and directing them to the appropriate staff or resources. (Up to 4 hours)
  2. In addition, each SSI Peer Educator is matched with a specific SSI program to provide targeted programmatic support such as markeing, data entry, and coordination of events/workshops. These assignments may shift throughout the academic year depending on events and activities, requiring Peer Educators to remain flexible and ready to support other programs as needed. (Up to 4 hours)

As a SSI Peer Educator, you will

  • Ensure professional customer service to visitors of the SSI office providing a welcoming environment for all students and guests.
  • Provide tips and suggestions to students around study skills, accountability, developing and achieving goals, getting involved, and effectively utilizing campus resources.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs and or services for SSI students.
  • Input student data into our office databases and support our office data management efforts.
  • Develop skills in guiding and facilitating discussions/presentations, either one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Assist with outreach and promotion in departmental or campus events which may include participating in Welcome Week, Celebrate UCI, First Generation Day, SSI Graduation Celebration and campus resource fairs.
  • Be privy to and keep private the confidential information of UCI students.

     

Eligibility Requirements

SSI Peer Educators MUST:

  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time their application is submitted, start of their employment, and throughout their employment in Student Success Initiatives. 
    • If GPA is lower than a 3.0, please utilize the cover letter to explain why and what steps are being taken to improve academically.
  • Be a full time UCI student of sophomore, junior, or senior standing by fall 2026 OR be a transfer student who has been at UCI for at least one academic year by date of employment. Full time status must be kept throughout the academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters)
  • Commit to the position for the entirety of the 2026-2027 academic school year (September 14th, 2026-June 11th, 2027). 
  • Attend and participate in mandatory SSI Peer Educator training from September 14th, 2026 - September 18th 2026 from 9am-5pm which will be held in person on campus.
    • Students are responsible for making arrangements to attend training in advance.
  • Attend bi-weekly in person staff meetings on even weeks of the quarter during the academic year from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. The exact day of the week is determined per quarter.
  • Be available to work a minimum of 8 hours a week during the academic year excluding finals week and campus holidays/closures.
  • Complete an Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) form which requires employees to provide documented proof of work eligibility in the United States.

Finally, please state what programming assignment you’d be most interested in working with (Anteater Success Resources, Distinguished Scholars Program, First Generation Programs, or Gateway Scholars).  If you are not interested in a particular program, you may state that you do not have a preference.
