Summer 2026 Intern - Climate & Community Resilience

American Family Insurance’s Sustainable Business Framework team is seeking a motivated intern to support our strategic initiatives in climate impacts, resilience, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will bring a strong academic background and passion for climate science, data science, and/or risk management. This role is instrumental in shaping and executing the company’s Climate Impacts and Resilience strategies and contributing to our Community Engagement efforts.

 

 

Primary Accountabilities

• Support research and project development for property-level and community-level resilience solutions. 

• Assist in aggregating and analyzing data related to climate resilience and community impact. 

• Contribute to cross-functional projects that span both climate impact & resilience and community engagement pillars. 

• Participate in stakeholder engagement, pilot initiatives, and impact assessment activities. 

• Assist in the development and implementation of long-term climate and community resilience strategies. 

• Prepare presentations and reports to summarize and communicate major accomplishments, milestones, and impact stories with technical and non-technical audiences. 


Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
• Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
• Must be currently seeking a baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree and be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis or as required by the university's co-op program.
• Must have achieved 24 semester hours of academic credit before beginning the first work term.

 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• Academic background in climate science, data science, meteorology, risk management, or related field. 

• Strong analytical, research, and strategic-thinking skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

• Interest in community engagement and sustainable business practices. 

• Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks effectively. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Up to 10%.

• Work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
