Bank Interns are expected to work in our Prudential Tower office in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood as often as possible. The Bank does offer full-time employees a hybrid work model that does require weekly in-office time.

 

The Bank does not offer remote internships.

The Bank is not able to sponsor work authorization for Interns. 

 

Internship Summary 

The Law Clerk intern will work side-by-side with the Bank’s team of experienced attorneys and gain a general understanding of how an in-house legal department operates and ensure our interns leave with practical knowledge and a strong professional network.  Moreover, because the internship will be within the legal department of a regulated financial institution and government-sponsored enterprise, the intern will also be provided with a foundation in various aspects of business law, administrative law, and regulatory compliance providing a unique perspective on law in a business context. The ideal intern will be someone interested in exploring law within the financial services and/or banking sector.

 

The pay for the internship is $30/hour. This is a full-time internship, anticipated to require 40 hours a week. It will be part of our 2026 summer internship cohort, running from mid-May to mid-August 2026. Our interns from within various departments around the Bank will be invited to participate in a variety of professional and social experiences designed to foster connection and teamwork. 


Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide broad, general support to the FHLBank Boston Legal team.
  • Assist bank attorneys across various practice areas, including:
    • Member services (e.g., membership, credit, lending, and collateral issues)
    • Vendor management (e.g., contract review and negotiation)
    • Regulatory compliance (e.g., tracking new laws and regulations)
  • Contribute to specialized legal projects as assigned by the Assistant General Counsel.
  • Perform legal research and writing as well as assisting with other duties assigned by members of the Legal Team.
  • Shadow lawyers in real-time contract negotiations, meetings with internal clients, etc.

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Applicants must be current first- or second-year law students attending an ABA-approved law school.

 

Experience

  • Some prior experience in an office environment is preferred.
  • Experience with coursework, prior internship, work, volunteering and/or projects related to legal research and writing.

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong issue-spotting, problem-solving and analytic ability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
