Spanish Teacher
Position location:
Position is shared between Norhtwest High School and Trailridge School
Incentives: World Language positions fall under the Waukee CSD incentive plan for hiring and retaining teachers in hard to fill areas. Hiring Bonus - $5,000 paid to newly hired certified teachers: $2,500 paid at initial contract signing and an additional $2,500 upon successful completion of the first year and signing of the contract for year two. Retention Bonus - $5,000 payment after completing three consecutive years is the same position and the signing of a contract for year four. This is paid at the end of year three.
Position Criteria:
- Valid State of Iowa teaching license, 5-12 Spanish endorsement.
- Previous classroom teaching experience at the secondary levels preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration and/or board of education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Criteria:
- Create and maintain healthy relationships with students.
- Believe in, have experience with, and be able to demonstrate competence with the following principles for grading and assessment:
- Differentiation of instruction & assessment is necessary for students to grow and progress.
- Multiple data points are used to determine the summative grade.
- Course grades accurately communicate only academic achievement of the standards.
- Independent practice is meaningful, purposeful, and tied to standards.
- Students are given multiple opportunities to show proficiency through ongoing assessment.
- Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and by able to apply that understanding to a team situation.
- Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to: differentiating instruction for learners, meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
- Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction.
- Commit to meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to implement the MTSS process.
- Articulate oral and written communications.
- Serve and meet the expectations for being a WHS student advisor.
- Maintain accurate standards based grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work.
- Record of recent professional learning and knowledge of current research
- Participate in secondary-level professional development.
