Assistant Editor (Intern)

Haymarket Media, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Editor (Intern) to join the Rare Disease Advisor and Companion team. Both remote and in-person candidates will be considered for this role, which is located in our New York City office, with three days on-site (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and a team flex day) and two days remote for in-office interns.
 

Job Overview:

The Rare Disease Advisor/Companion intern will perform a variety of editorial duties for  Rare Disease Advisor (RDA), a digital brand for healthcare providers (HCPs), and the Companion family of brands, which serves patients and caregivers. The intern will collaborate with the editors who produce a variety of content and email newsletters for the brands. They will review designated Resource Pages on the RDA site, conduct research on relevant recent developments, and update the pages as needed. The intern will also edit other types of articles, prepare them for publication, and publish them online. For the Companion brands, the intern will create patient-friendly glossaries of terms relevant to different diseases. Additionally, the intern will assist the team with updating and maintaining various spreadsheets. 
 

Responsibilities:

The intern will:

  • Review designated Resource Pages on the RDA site, conduct research on relevant recent developments, and update the pages as needed
  • Edit other types of RDA articles and quizzes, prepare them for publication, and publish them on the site
  • Create patient-friendly glossaries of terms relevant to diseases covered by the Companion brands
  • Assist with the final approval of email newsletters and included content before deployment
  • Work with the RDA and Companion teams to update and maintain various spreadsheets

 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications or a related discipline
  • The ability to produce clean, concise, clear, and accurate editorial content
  • Experience working in WordPress or another content management system
  • Knowledge of current search engine optimization best practices
  • Capable of handling multiple simultaneous projects and adhering to deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience as a strong team player who can independently follow through on assigned tasks
  • Knowledge of AMA style is preferred
  • Experience working with medical or health content, or content for another specialized audience, is a plus

What We Offer:

  • Location: New York City hybrid or remote
  • Salary: $17.00/hr.
  • Start Date/ Duration: June 15, 2026 to August 14, 2026 (9 weeks)
  • Schedule: 32 hours a week; hybrid onsite schedule (if in NYC); Summer Fridays
