Volkswagen Group of America’s 10 – week Summer Internship Program targets undergraduate students entering their Junior or Senior years who are eager to acquire practical, real-world experience in the automotive industry. Program Information:

  • 10-week Summer Internship Start Date (non-negotiable): June 1, 2026
  • Program Duration: June 1, 2026 – August 7, 2026

Role Summary

The SDS Systems and Safety Intern will support the VnV team in deriving technical requirements from laws, regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure functional coverage and safety compliance. This role involves authoring and organizing requirements, assisting in scenario development for testing, and contributing to safety case documentation for autonomous driving systems.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Author new technical requirements and modify existing ones based on local regulations.
  • Append verification criteria to support testing efforts.
  • Identify gaps in requirements and author additional requirements as needed.
  • Organize requirements according to established structures.
  • Assist in scenario development to verify driving behavior requirements.
  • Link requirements to applicable scenarios and identify gaps.
  • Support safety case development by reviewing and identifying gaps in existing cases.

Qualifications

  • A rising college Junior, Senior or recent graduate
  • Strong GPA
  • Basic systems engineering knowledge (v-model process preferred)
  • Strong preference for Engineering majors 
  • Interest in automotive technologies, with a particular focus on autonomous and self-driving systems

Skills

  • Microsoft skills, analytical and logical thinking and problem solving.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with driving behavior and policy requirements.
  • Understanding of safety case development processes.
