Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) Technician
The days and work hours will be determined by the program. This position has an alternate scheduling arrangement that allows for unique flexibility. The schedule includes variable shifts that are scheduled across 7 days in the 2 week pay period. This includes weekends and holidays.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible primarily for supporting individuals who access/utilize Crisis Stabilization Services including Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) in accordance with the West Michigan Crisis Stabilization Services model. The clinician is to provide the following services for individuals of all ages: Pre-Admission screenings (PAS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) coaching, phone triage, mobile crisis response and post-stabilization services. Mobile crisis is an acute mental health crisis stabilization and psychiatric assessment service to individuals by phone, within their own homes, or in other secure community sites or other traditional clinical settings. This position is able to provide jail diversion planning and may also provide trainings or informational presentations to community partners. The primary purpose is to meet acute needs and thereby reduce ER usage and inpatient hospitalizations.
In addition, this position may complete screenings and assessments, diagnose with master’s level supervisor sign off, and determine the eligibility and level of care/needs for individuals requesting initial behavioral health or substance use services at WMCMH. This position is able to provide triage, level of care authorization/reauthorization, coordination with other providers, disease specific education, follow-up/outreach services to reduce the utilization of higher levels of care, facilitate treatment, enhance compliance with the established provider network, encourage and empower each person regarding their care, and facilitate individual/family early detection and intervention.
Requirements:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field, such as a social worker (LBSW, LLBSW), educator from an accredited program*, registered nurse (RN), physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, audiologist, registered dietician, therapeutic recreation, behavior analyst, child development, counseling/guidance, criminal justice, health administration, health education, music therapy, psychology, sociology, child welfare and protection, juvenile justice, gerontology, or rehabilitation counseling. If not currently licensed, certified, or registered in one of these professions, the individual must be eligible and willing to apply for and obtain such licensure, certification, or registration immediately per the guidelines for the profession. (*Educators are not required to retain their teaching certification in order to be considered qualified for their position.)
In addition, if the individual is eligible, it is required to obtain certification for one of the following: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or a Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional – Diplomate through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) or enter into a developmental plan to obtain certification following the requirements of MCBAP.
If not in a profession listed above, the individual must have been grandfathered into the position by MDCH prior to 1/1/08 or provided with a waiver specific to the individual and the position by MDCH
Must meet the Medicaid provider qualifications for services for the specific program be a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP), and a Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP).
Must be credentialed and privileged to practice at WMCMH by the Executive Committee of the Clinical Oversight Committee of WMCMH.
Minimum one year’s experience working with children with SED and/or I/DD.
Must be certified in First Aid and CPR or obtain training after hire.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to and from meetings and activities at varying work locations including all agency locations in Lake, Mason, and Oceana Counties.
Functions under the guidance and leadership of a Children’s Mental Health Professional (CMHP).
Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders are valued.
