This is a seasonal up to 40 hours per week opportunity!   As a Missoula County employee, you will be part of a team that is committed to positively impacting the community. The rate of pay for this position is $18.93 per hour.

The Missoula County Ecology/Extension Department is seeking a BIOCONTROL CREW MEMBER to join their team. This position works on the Biological Weed Control Crew overseen by the Weed District Education Assistant/Crew Leader from mid-May to mid-August with a variety of weed biocontrol projects.

Representative Examples of Work

Monitors and inventories noxious weed/biocontrol sites which are located throughout Montana. Requires driving to and from work sites. Maintains databases and creates spreadsheets for biocontrol monitoring, collection, and release data. May assist in leading youth field trips including the Youth in Restoration Program.  Assists with releasing and collecting a variety of biocontrol insects. Responsible for properly storing biocontrol agents. Prepares and ships biocontrol agents.   Works collaboratively with a variety of land managers throughout Montana.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduation or GED required. 
  • Twenty-four (24) college semester credits desired.  Courses most applicable to the position will be in Ecology, forestry, Natural Resources, Biology, Botany or other plant sciences.
  • One year of experience working in a natural resource or plant science field desired.  
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Requires a valid Montana Driver's License.

Physical/Environmental Demands

Work schedule and location may vary.  Some overnight travel will be required when working with land managers on the east side of the state. The work demands are seasonal with considerable time spent in an outdoor setting. The outdoor work requires considerable physical exertion such as hiking over steep, rough, and uneven terrain, bending, stooping, and occasional heavy lifting (20 lbs to 25 lbs) in all types of weather. Requires driving a motor vehicle.
