Research Engineer – V2X & Vehicle Connectivity 📡🚗

Are you a researcher looking to bridge the gap between high-speed cellular networks and real-world automotive safety? We are seeking a Research Engineer specializing in V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) and vehicle connectivity. In this role, you will design the communication architectures of the future, leveraging 5G, C-V2X, and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) to create a safer, more efficient driving experience.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

You will lead the development of communication testbeds and conduct in-field experiments to validate next-generation "Connected Mobility" solutions.

V2X Architecture Design: Design and implement vehicle-to-network communication architectures that leverage cellular infrastructure, cloud, and MEC platforms.

Connectivity Integration: Integrate and optimize communication methods (e.g., C-V2X, PC5, and Uu interfaces) to support automotive safety, ADAS, and traffic efficiency applications.

Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Development: Build and manage vehicle testbeds, conducting field experiments using prototype vehicles to test connectivity in real-world environments.

Network Analysis: Utilize hardware (OBU) and software tools (e.g., Wireshark, network analyzers) to troubleshoot and monitor vehicle-to-network performance.

Data Science & Visualization: Analyze data from vehicle sensors and communication devices to predict and improve network performance for connected vehicle fleets.

Thought Leadership: Contribute to whitepapers, research reports, and invention disclosures, ensuring Toyota stays at the forefront of wireless innovation.

What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in telecommunications and the programming skills to deploy software in Linux-based automotive environments.

Education: Master’s or Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications.

Cellular Mastery: Deep understanding of LTE and 5G technologies, specifically as they apply to vehicular use cases (C-V2X).

Networking Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, MQTT, and networking protocols, with proficiency in analysis tools like Wireshark.

Technical Programming: Hands-on experience with Python, C/C++, and ROS (Robot Operating System).

Linux Environment: Familiarity with debugging and troubleshooting in Linux-based hardware and software environments.

AI/ML (Plus): Experience or familiarity with AI/ML for network prediction and optimization is highly desirable.
