TN-077 – Distribution Engineering Intern

 Job Description: 

TOR Engineering is looking for a Distribution Engineering Intern to provide design support services for our sub-transmission (69kV) to medium-voltage (12kV) Engineering projects for our electric utility clients. 

TOR Engineering will provide training and mentorship to the selected Intern with the goal of the Intern becoming able to assist Engineer(s) and Designer(s) in the development of both overhead electric and underground electric design packages to support retrofits and new electric infrastructure projects. The Intern should have an eye for detail, have a good work ethic, communicate well and be a team player.

 Responsibilities Include:

  • Learn to read and understand client scopes of work 
  • Learn to acquire city and utility record plans
  • Learn to create CAD background basemaps to use for development of new construction plans
  • Gain understanding of NESC/ANSI and client-specific standard electrical device numbers
  • Learning to read an electrical substation one line diagrams
  • Learn to read and develop distribution engineering conduit and wire schematics
  • Learn to read and understand roadway improvement plans, grading & drainage plans, and other civil engineering-related materials
  • Visit proposed design-construction site locations to identify ground conflicts, collect information, pictures and other field data
  • Learn to develop bill of materials to support design plans

 General Requirements:

  • Working on obtaining a B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Environmental)
  • 0-2 years or more experience working with civil or electrical systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD or MicroStation CAD software
  • Must be self-motivated and able to communicate and work well with others
