Digital Projects Communications Student Assistant
The Association of American Law Schools (AALS), a 501(c)(3) higher education association, represents 175 American law schools and is located in downtown Washington, DC. AALS seeks 1 undergraduate or graduate student to work approximately 20–25 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, self-motivated, reliable and willing to roll up his/her sleeves to help with any project or task assigned. Position requires significant use of Microsoft Office and WordPress.
Position Summary
The Student Assistant provides support to the Communications department, which supports all areas of the organization. The student works closely with staff on a variety of projects including data entry, news monitoring, archival projects, maintaining the AALS website, and occasional writing tasks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with weekly news aggregation projects, collect clips, write digest, update the website archive of past news.
- Support the completion of the Journal of Legal Education archive by identifying key terms, concepts, and uploading material on a digital platform.
- Regular website updates to resource hubs, meeting and event microsites, webinars, and other tasks.
- Assist with ongoing projects as needed, including data entry.
- Occasional writing tasks related to event and program marketing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required
- Must be current college student either undergrad student or graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, technology, computer science, library science, or related fields.
- Ability to synthesize large quantities of information and effectively communicate the most relevant details. Problem-solving capability necessary to work on a 5-person team.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good time management and ability to self-motivate, work independently; job is mostly remote.
- Related work or school experience not required but preferred: Website management, CSS and HTML, demonstrated knowledge and use of computer applications, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Acrobat), WordPress, NetForum AMS, and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must reside in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC, and live within a commutable distance from the AALS headquarters. The position is remote, with the possibility to work some days in-person at the AALS Dupont Circle offices, accommodating student class schedules and the Association’s needs.
