Business Administration and Management Intern for the Splash Park
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The BA intern is tasked with running a Splash Park with the oversight of a mentor. They are responsible for the supervision, training, and scheduling of the Splash Park Attendants, as well as overseeing daily operations and finances of the Splash Park. They also will coordinate Splash Park marketing and sales in collaboration with Community Development Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise, train and schedule the Splash Park Attendants;
- Promote Splash Park events, programs and closings through social media; advertisements, flyers, coordination with media outlets etc.;
- Obtain sponsorships for events by coordinating with local businesses and residents;
- Prepare annual report of all Splash Park activities for the year along with participation numbers and present findings to Park Board and City Council;
- Organize and track admission records;
- Coordinate snack counter operations inventory;
- Oversee the maintenance and purchase of inventory of for-sale items;
- Oversee daily cash drawer balancing;
- Ensure the deposit of cash, checks and cash drawer slips at City Hall;
- Coordinate advertising with City Hall Staff;
- Coordinate recreational and community activities with community groups and organizations such as businesses, churches and schools;
- Oversee on-site organization and cleaning schedule;
- Coordinate scheduled parties;
- Set Splash Park hours, ensure proper staffing, and schedule staff;
- Inspect facilities for safety;
- Coordinate and respond to citizen complaints and inquiries courteously;
- Provide and facilitate exceptional customer service;
- Prepare and provide first aid and other incident reports to the Community Development Director; and
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently pursuing a degree in Parks and Recreation, Business, Management, Government, or related field. Grade point average of at least 3.0. Strong problem solving and communication skills required. Leadership experience supervising others and coordinating recreational programs. Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, occasional weeknights, and some weekends. Ability to be on-call first contact for direct employees using City Hall device.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Open to new ideas and have the innovation to identify, design and implement new programs; Strong knowledge of computer programs; Ability to deal tactfully and responsively to changes in programming due to unforeseen circumstances.
Knowledge of budget principles; Ability to develop, implement and administer communication strategies and recreation and community programs; Ability to supervise several workers engaged in varied tasks simultaneously; Ability to safely operate and maintain all departmental equipment, and to train others in the same; Ability to prepare written reports accurately; Ability to effectively promote recreation and community programs.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with other City agencies and departments, City officials and employees; Ability to work courteously and maintain effective relationships and communication with the general public; Experience managing email and social media platforms.
Knowledge of life-safety issues related to recreation programs; CPR and First Aid Certification preferred; Ability and willingness to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional nights and weekends; Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a seasonal part-time hourly (non-exempt) position. Attendance in the evening, weekends and/or holidays is required when schedule falls on those days. Hours are a minimum of 30 hours per week, additional hours may be required during the Splash Pad operating season (Memorial Day through Labor Day). Hours will vary based on business needs. Must be able to start position in May on or before May 18th, 2026, and work until the end of August at a minimum. This position will be required to work Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) as this is the first weekend the Splash Park is open.
Up to 80 hours per pay period are authorized at the beginning of the season for preparing, planning, hiring and training purposes. Additionally, 10 hours at the end of the operating season are authorized to conduct end of the year activities including preparing annual reports, closing the park, and presenting to the Park Board and City Council.
SALARY
Pay is at Grade 3, $15.00 per hour. Minimum of 30 hours per week.

EQUIPMENT
Splash Park Coordinator will be trained in Splash Park equipment operations by the Public Works department. Two devices and a point of sale system will be assigned to the Splash Park Intern, only to be used for duties as required by the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office setting, as well as on location at the Princeton Splash Park inside the concession building and outdoors. Occasionally required to work in adverse weather conditions, work hours outside of the normal work week. This job involves dealing with customers who may be emotionally charged over an issue.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
