Instrument & Electrical Technician/Operator
The Instrument and Electrical Technician/Operator performs highly skilled and complex technical work in the maintenance of KEYS’ electric power generating plant.
- Repair and maintain electrical equipment such as generators, exciters, switchgear, electrical motors, motor control equipment, pneumatics control working regularly on 480v equipment and providing minor troubleshooting and assistance on any equipment under 69kv.
- Install, calibrate, maintain, test, troubleshoot, tune, and repair complex equipment such as electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-hydraulic and various controls.
- Inspect, adjust, and repair the recorders, indicators, generator load control equipment, distributive and programmable logic control systems, pressure, flow, level, temperature, position and analysis controllers, indicators, transmitters, protection relays, and final control elements (including drives and valves) and continuous emissions monitoring equipment used on the various power plant systems.
- Install switches, receptacles, indicators, alarms, process indication controls, motors, lighting, conduit and wiring, and instrument tubing as required.
- Conduct performance tests on complex power generation equipment and download records and graphs results and any others, distribute event files, history files, etc., from electronic equipment in field.
- Maintain records of equipment performance and repair.
- Inspect equipment to determine the need for preventative maintenance and makes repairs routinely.
- Establish and maintain written technical procedures for maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.
- Maintain reliability of electronic systems controlling analog and digital processes.
- Maintain and service systems and components by reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer's publications.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair controls.
- Calibrate and maintain the accuracy of system primary elements, transducers, indicators, transmitters and receivers, and pneumatics control.
- Work with, instruct and train new apprentices.
- Maintain and back up configuration file settings and software programs associated with equipment and devices used by KEYS.
- Operate and monitor all power plant equipment in the capacity of an operator, including start/stop and raise/lower loads on diesel and combustion turbine units.
- Inspect, adjust, and download recorders, indicators, and control systems relating to the Continuous Emissions Monitor System (CEMS), and prepare required documentation for same.
- Participate in KEYS compliance efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) reliability standards requirements, and all KEYS reliability standards.
- Collect data for compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to meet environmental regulations and compliance.
- Maintain good housekeeping and utilize KEYS/OSHA safe working practices and policies and required proper safety equipment at all times.
