Resource Educator

Position Title: Resource Educator 

Location: Ellanor C. Lawrence Park: 5040 Walney Rd., Chantilly VA 20151

Hours: Seasonal position, up to 40 hours per week

  • 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday until the end of program. 

Salary: $16.87 per hour

 

Overview: Share your passion for nature and the outdoors at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park! We are looking for a Resource Educator to manage customer service, education, and safety for programming. You will also be responsible for preparing lessons and materials for activities for preschool to elementary school groups, scout groups, and/or all-age family programs. 

 

Duties: 

  • Leads and supervises youth participants during programs. 
  • Works in a team with other site staff. 
  • Leads experiments activities, crafts, and games for programs while following all FCPA safety procedures. 
  • Informs supervisors of participant behavioral concerns, supports contact with participants’ parents or guardians. 
  • Completes all training courses in a timely manner. Completes all necessary paperwork regarding safety and first aid.
  • Prepares materials and lessons for educational activities and writes supplemental lesson plans and activities when needed. 
  • Support in cleaning of all park/summer camp spaces and report all maintenance concerns to supervisor. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old or older. 
  • High school diploma. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English. 
  • Strong organizational abilities plus ability to work independently. 
  • First aid and CPR certifications required within one month of being hired. 
  • Ability to traverse nature trails over sometimes rough terrain and up and down hills.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in natural history interpretation and/or education or a related field.
  • Experience in developing, leading, and evaluating small group educational programs.
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in a related field. 
  • Multi-lingual. 
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and within a diverse team.
