Position Title: Endangered Species Habitat Monitoring Individual Placement (640 Hours)
Position Summary:
The Four Rivers Field Office of Boise District BLM is recruiting two, 640-hour Endangered Species Habitat Monitoring Individual Placement beginning May 18th, 2026 through September 18th, 2026. Work would occur within the Snake River Plain focusing on habitat inventory, exclosure repair and monitoring for the threatened species Slickspot Peppergrass (Lepidium papilliferum). Completion of this work would benefit a broad array of plant and wildlife species while increasing opportunity for restoration and other multiple use activities throughout the Snake River Plain.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific activities include:
- Presence/absence of slickspot peppergrass habitat, slick spots, using tablets with Survey123 and Field Maps software and uploading data to ArcPro. (40%)
- Fenceline mapping and repair and photo monitoring of Habitat Enhancement Area (HEA) and Ecological Restoration Area (ERA) exclosures throughout Snake River Plain (40%)
- Rangeland Trend monitoring, restoration work, and other types of work commonly completed by seasonal employees (20%)
- Team leadership skills – Self-starter with Ability to oversee day-to-day operations while engaging in work with crews; monitor crew performance and report out on metrics; motivate team individual placements; listen to team individual placements' feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts; create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Science based degree or course work preferably in Botany or Wildlife with GIS ArcPro knowledge
- Effective communicator and ability to be a leader and work with a team
Desired Qualifications:
- ArcPro experience or course work
- Survey123, or Field Maps
- Outdoor aficionado and public land steward
- Experience with driving primitive roads
- Personal transportation to work site
Duty Location:
Duties are performed within Boise District Office which is within the city of Boise.
Terms of Employment:
Each individual placement will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May 18th, 2026 through September 2026 (flexible end date). The individual placement must complete a minimum of 640 service hours by the end of their term.
Program Benefits:
$10,240 living allowance, plus a housing fund of $3,000, for a total stipend of $13,240, dispersed on a monthly basis over the 16-week term. This position also includes a $500 gear reimbursement fund.
The living allowance is taxable. Individual placements are responsible for providing their own food.
