As a member of the Sustainability and Food Security Team, you will focus on initiatives to promote environmental sustainability and food security in Albion. This includes supporting local food initiatives and addressing food insecurity through food production and distribution. Additionally, you will contribute to campus-wide sustainability and support the development and sustainability of community partnerships.
Potential Site Placements:
● Center for Sustainability and the Environment Summer Internship
○ The Student Farm Summer Internship is a 38-hours-per-week, hands-on experience where students help manage the student farm and grow produce for distribution through the Community Table. Interns also support the community garden and assist with day-to-day growing, harvesting, and maintenance tasks throughout the summer. This role is ideal for students interested in farming, gardening, food systems, or sustainability, and includes opportunities to support small sustainability-focused projects connected to the work. It is an intensive, outdoor-based experience, with interns spending the majority of their time working outside in a physically active environment.
● Community Table and Community Garden of Albion Coordinator
○ This is a co-position supporting Albion’s local food access efforts through both food distribution and community-based growing. This role helps with the day-to-day operations of the Community Table and pantry, including volunteer coordination, inventory management, community outreach, and creating a welcoming, equitable food access environment for all. Interns will also spend part of their time supporting the Albion Community Garden, contributing to gardening and food-growing activities that directly benefit the community. This position is ideal for someone interested in food justice, community engagement, public health, or sustainability, and includes a mix of indoor and outdoor work.

● Problem-Solving Abilities: Skill in identifying challenges, developing creative solutions, and implementing strategies to address issues related to sustainability and food security.
● Collaboration and Teamwork: Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues, volunteers, and community partners to achieve shared goals and foster community resilience.
Benefits
Minimum Time Members serve 300 hours - about 25 hours/week - from May to August. Quarter Time Members serve 450 hours - about 38 hours/week - from May to August.
● Members will earn a living stipend which will be paid evenly over the pay periods you are enrolled in the program.
● Upon completion of all hours, Members will receive an education award which can be applied towards qualifying educational expenses.
