Summer Camp Lifeguard

Who we are

Camp Cody is a co-ed Summer Camp in Freedom, New Hampshire. Since 1926, we have been providing unique experiences for campers and staff of all ages worldwide. Our Cody team is made up of teachers, athletes, coaches, creatives, hikers, bikers, travelers, and so much more. Together, we provide a safe and fun environment where campers and staff create life-long memories. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Lifeguarding for the swim pier activities (the Wibit, free swim, swim instructional, water polo, water volleyball) during six activity periods, as well as assisting in other programs that coincide with the swim pier, including campers’ free time and our daily evening programs, as well as staff events.
  • Lifeguarding other waterfront activities, including spotting on motor boats and lifeguarding our paddle sports.
  • Ensuring that when lifeguarding, campers are having fun in a safe and appropriate way.
  • Ensuring all campers are wearing correctly sized life jackets when needed.
  • Assisting with the swim tests held at the start of every session.
  • Communicating to your activity head about any issues/safety concerns in the activity area or if any materials are needed/running low.
  • Keeping the swim pier and waterfront areas clean and ready for every group.
     

What we need from you

  • Assist in planning and implementing waterfront activities based on assigned waterfront areas, specific to age and ability.
  • Work with the Waterfront team to ensure the cleanliness of the waterfront area.
  • Follow and enforce Camp Cody’s waterfront safety protocols, and ensure all campers and staff are tagging in and out of the waterfront.
  • Maintain constant supervision of campers; acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of campers in the event of an emergency.

Cabin Responsibilities:

  • You will be living in a cabin with one co-counselor as well as a group of campers (varies in size based on the age group).
  • Your primary role is to ensure that your campers are having tons of fun in a safe and appropriate way.
  • You will also be responsible for
    • Supervising the campers in your cabin outside of regular activity times including meals, free time, evening program, morning wake-ups, and bedtime.
    • Ensuring your campers are ready and on time for meals, activities, and all other camp events and happenings
    • Keeping your cabin clean and organized and cabin chores are being completed
    • Planning and carrying out creative and exciting games and activities for your campers during free time
    • Watching out for any homesickness/behavioral issues/conflicts in your cabin and communicating it to your group leader to ensure all campers can get back to having a positive camp experience
    • Checking that your campers are wearing the correct footwear/clothing for the day's activities, are showering daily, and are not the same clothes they have worn before
    • Ensuring your campers are applying sunscreen and bug spray, and are staying hydrated
    • Ensuring your campers are going to the health center at the appropriate time if they take any medications
    • Cleaning and resetting the cabin at the end of each session to be ready for the next group of campers

 

What skills & experience you’ll bring to us

  • Proven experience in working with children, and waterfront experience.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced camp environment.
  • Ability to act calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Physical ability to lead activities for 6 to 8 hours per day.
  • Displays an energetic and positive personality.
  • Lifeguard certification (training available).

 

Salary & benefits

Camp Cody offers a competitive salary ($400 per week, increased based on experience), room and board, staff training, weekly laundry service, camp t-shirts, weekly day-off, access to our snack-stocked staff lounge, and lifelong friendships! International staff salaries may differ slightly to accommodate for sponsoring agency fees.

Lifeguard Training: 6/05/24 - 6/10/26

Staff Training: 6/09/26 - 6/20/26

Summer Camp: 6/21/26 - 8/15/26
