Senior Associate, Alliances and Partnerships, Global Health Advocacy

The salary range for this position is $61,000 USD to $76,000 USD

UN Foundation’s global health advocacy team champions American investments in global health as a smart, effective, and cost-effective way to protect the health of people around the world while benefitting the health prosperity of Americans here at home. The global health advocacy team has three core brands: Shot@Life, which advocates for global immunization programs; United to Beat Malaria, which advocates for global malaria elimination; and HealthForUS, which advocates holistically for American engagement and investment in global health.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Associate, Alliances and Partnerships is a full time, exempt position responsible for supporting efforts to develop and cultivate alliances and partnerships that advance the priorities of the global health advocacy team. They serve as the focal point for key advocacy alliances and impact partners and are responsible for recruiting and expanding partnerships in key states and districts.

A key objective for the Senior Associate, Alliances and Partnerships is the recruitment of new partners and maximizing their engagement during key moments of the year in support of global health advocacy and impact/ advancement priorities. The Senior Associate is a key member of the Global Health Advocacy team, working closely with the Senior Director, Directors of Global Health Advocacy, and Director of Grassroots Advocacy as well as other campaigns and UN Foundation colleagues.

This position is based in Washington, DC (Hybrid schedule).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Partnership Recruitment & Development

  • Identify, cultivate, and support relationship management with key advocacy partners including NGOs, foundations, professional associations, and community-based groups
  • Research and develop creative tactics and recruit prospective partners in key states and Congressional districts to include academic and research institutions
  • Support the Sr. Director in cultivating strategic partnerships with academic institutions, including schools of public health, medicine, policy, and global leadership, as well as alumni networks and student organizations, with a focus on key Congressional districts
  • Serve as the point of contact for partner organizations and maintain regular communication to ensure collaboration and alignment
  • Organize and participate in partner meetings, events, workshops, and forums to deepen relationships with coalition partners
  • Identify and develop opportunities for relationship cultivation, leveraging new and existing avenues of engagement including grassroots advocacy participation, Hill briefings, learning trips, training webinars, panels and presentations
  • Develop and adjust operations and logistics with the goal of maximizing advocacy partner engagement during key advocacy moments

 

Coalition Building and Engagement

  • Represent the organization at existing and prospective partner events and in relevant coalitions and working groups, ensuring alignment and contribution to shared advocacy agendas
  • Convene and coordinate with partners to mobilize support for campaigns, policy priorities, and global health initiatives
  • Collaborate with Direct Advocacy colleagues to execute advocacy goals and strategies for the year
  • Collaborate with Grassroots Advocacy colleagues to support grassroots strategy and implementation tactics
  • Collaborate with Communications colleagues to develop partnerships focused content including one-pagers, messaging, and collaborative content for prospective advocacy partners
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop goals and budget for advocacy partner learning trips, including post-trip engagement opportunities for trip participants

 

Annual Leadership Summits and Advocacy Days

  • Coordinate with partners to facilitate their participation in global health Summits and Advocacy Day(s)
  • Assist the Direct Advocacy team with executing major priorities and events, including convenings on Capitol Hill and priority champion and partner events, etc
  • Support partner recruitment and relationship-building efforts, with a focus on key Congressional districts
  • Carry out partner event logistics during Summit, demonstrating proactive and creative problem solving aimed at creating an excellent partner experience

 

Partner Relationship Management and Processes

  • Support the Senior Director and advocacy team in researching prospective advocacy and corporate partners, identifying potential funders, and tracking engagement opportunities such as events and conferences to strengthen the partnership portfolio
  • Work with Senior Director to track partner engagement and report on outcomes that support advocacy partner goals and to resource and support advocacy partners to mobilize during key engagements
  • Assist in material development, campaign collateral and event support for advocacy partners
  • Support of advocacy partners in publishing Letters to the Editors
  • Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
  • Support the drafting and review of agreements, maintain familiarity with key terms and requirements, and coordinate with UNF’s finance and contracts team as needed
  • Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s Agreements and Partnerships team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Associate, Alliances and Partnerships, Global Health Advocacy is not a supervisory role.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant training in advocacy, partnerships, or nonprofit engagement
  • Three or more years of related work experience with a strong track record of success
  • Partnerships or grassroots engagement and/or campaign experience preferred
  • Public speaking experience with the ability to build new relationships and maintain/strengthen existing partnerships
  • Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce and EveryAction preferred
  • Competent understanding of our political system and the role of advocacy in our lawmaking process
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-performing team environment and build strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders across organizations and functional areas
  • Strong organizational, communication and research skills
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as Google Drive
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy
  • Willingness to travel periodically
