Design and Development Intern

Job Title: D & D Intern

Department: Prototype / Design & Development

Reports to: Prototype Manufacturing Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Type: Hourly

Objective of the Position

Assists the Prototype (PT) team by supporting Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and PC&L activities related to prototype and development programs. Provides hands-on exposure to cross-functional prototype operations, project tracking, and process execution in an office and prototype environment.

Essential Accountabilities: the position incumbent ensures, that

Provides administrative and operational support to Prototype Manufacturing Engineering

Assists with SAP support activities, project organization, and tracking of prototype work

Supports Prototype Quality with inspections, control plan execution, and documentation

Assists Prototype PC&L with order picking, inventory audits, and shipping and receiving activities

Supports database management, tracking files, and general office organization

Updates reports, spreadsheets, and department data

May be assigned special projects depending on length and scope of internship

Secondary Accountabilities: the position incumbent ensures, that

Conducts all business-related activities for, and on behalf of, Purem within applicable local, state, and federal legal requirements

Complies with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements

Demonstrates accuracy, organization, and attention to detail

Supports quality, safety, and operational standards within the prototype environment

Other duties as assigned

Requirement Profile

Professional Background / Basic Qualification / Work Experience:

Student currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or Project Management (or related field)

Fluency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with database-type programs preferred

Positive attitude with eagerness to learn and ability to listen and take direction

Ability to work in an office and prototype environment

Safety-toed shoes required (provided by intern or company)

Technical Expertise:

Ability to apply basic mathematical and analytical concepts

Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions and documentation

Familiarity with SAP or ERP systems preferred

Ability to organize, track, and maintain project and inventory data

Methodical Competence:

Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Strong organizational and tracking skills

Dependability, punctuality, and accountability

Adaptability to changing priorities and prototype schedules

Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail

Interpersonal Competence:

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, quality, logistics, and management

Team-oriented with a positive, professional attitude

Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all interactions

Supervisory Competence:

This position does not supervise other employees

Working Conditions

This position involves working primarily in an office environment with regular interaction in a prototype and shop setting.
