HandsOn VISTA - City of Phoenix - Sustainability - Energy Access Coordinator

ABOUT HandsOn Greater Phoenix: 

For nearly 30 years, HandsOn Greater Phoenix has worked with nonprofits, Title I schools, neighborhood associations and government entities to assess and meet the volunteer needs of the Greater Phoenix area. The HandsOn VISTA program supports members at multiple placement sites across the valley. Our VISTA members enable our community service partners to expand capacity and build infrastructure by creating the processes and tools needed to effectively access and utilize valuable resources. HandsOn VISTA members will improve capacity for leading communities during and beyond their terms of service by developing their knowledge, skills, and abilities related to volunteering, civic engagement, and other areas. In addition to the site-specific work of the individual role all of our VISTA members: participate in 2 AmeriCorps of Service, lead projects at 2 HandsOn community service days, attend monthly VISTA team trainings with the other HandsOn VISTA members, and monthly community volunteering project opportunities.

Member Duties : 

Join City of Phoenix – Office of Sustainability and help support the adoption of energy access programming in low-income households and increase community resilience! Low-income households in Arizona face severe energy burdens, often spending 7 times more of their income on energy than the average household. In Phoenix, over 14% of households face energy poverty, with 96% of them being low-income. The successful applicant will focus on advancing actions that increase access to clean and affordable energy for households experiencing energy burden. You will do this by creating a tool bank of research-based efficient strategies, building peer to peer programing, and developing various outreach materials among other activities. The future member should be a self-starter with passion for new ideas but also able to successfully operate within the slower pace of government. Spanish and/or a knowledge background in sustainability, environment, urban planning, or community engagement, but not required, diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.
