Marquee Arts is a Michigan based non-profit organization committed to keeping community inspiration alive through the preservation and programming of historic theaters. Curators of film, theater and live entertainment, we proudly oversee the operations, upkeep, and artistic direction of the Michigan and State theaters in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Marquee Arts is the founding entity for Michigan's Cinetopia Film Festival and curator of the Not Just For Kids performance series. Rooted in Michigan's artistic history, the organization is committed to producing state of the art creative programming, unparalleled in diversity, quality and scope.
Summary: The Cinetopia Film Festival Marketing & Programming Intern plays a dynamic, cross-functional role supporting the creative, curatorial, and promotional execution of the Cinetopia Film Festival at the Michigan and State Theaters. This position is intentionally fluid in scope and designed for a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment and is eager to move between film programming, marketing strategy, content creation, and on-the-ground festival execution.
Essential Functions:

Programming & Curatorial Support:
- View film screeners and provide coverage notes
- Assist with research, scheduling, and print traffic
- Contribute creative input during programming discussions
Marketing & Creative Content:
- Create and coordinate marketing collateral
- Assist with short-form video or trailer editing
- Support website updates and asset organization
Festival Operations & Events:
- Assist with lobby setup, signage, and guest flow
- Support filmmaker and VIP appearances
Cross-Departmental Support:
- Assist with sponsor deliverables
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment The work is primarily indoors within a theater building(s) and may have some exposure to fumes, odor, dust, variant temperatures, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This role requires walking and standing for extended periods of time. This role requires working at a desk for extended periods of time. Extended computer use is required. This role also regularly requires reaching, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing stairs. Lifting and/or moving items that weigh up to 50 pounds may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Currently pursuing an Associate, Bachelor’s, or Graduate degree in a related field.
- Freshman standing or above required.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong interest in film programming and festivals.
- Experience in marketing, communications, or media production.
- Video editing or digital storytelling skills.
- Ability to work flexibly across projects.
· Passion for nonprofit arts and community storytelling
Internship Hours & Schedule
- Internship Dates: March 3, 2026 – May 29, 2026
- Approximately 20-hours per week
- In-person with flexible scheduling
- Evening and weekend hours required
- Increased hours during the run of the festival
- The Cinetopia Film Festival is May 13-17, 2026
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation at $10.00 per hour
- Free admission to films with available seats
