Student Environmental Groundshelper

Student – Environmental Groundshelper

This position reports to the Environmental Sustainability Manager and is located at the Operations Center, 8600 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver, Washington. The workweek is Tuesday through Friday, 7:00am – 5:30pm. Students must be able to work full days for a minimum of 20 (up to 40) hours per week. To be eligible for this position, students must be currently enrolled in college and taking college courses.

WHAT YOU WOULD DO:

Work for an organization active in restoring riparian habitat and creating pollinator habitat. Job includes: tree planting, pickup and delivery of supplies, landscape maintenance, invasive work including herbicide application, irrigation set up, event support, assisting with native plant nursery and various outside work activities associated with the utilities' habitat restoration program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous landscaping and tree planting work experience is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions for the entire workday.
  • Communicate and interact in a positive, professional manner with a variety of individuals including teammates, staff, landowners and volunteers.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness and ability to drive vehicles such as passenger vans, utility vehicles and/or pick-up trucks with attached equipment trailers, with training.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Preparation for pesticide application when necessary.
  • Must be flexible, dependable and teamwork oriented.

BENEFITS:

As a public utility district in Washington State, Clark Public Utilities student employees may be enrolled in the Public Employee Retirement System. Student employees will also receive one hour of sick leave for every forty hours worked.

2025 Salary: $20.25/hour
