Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Wisdom Dental Group is looking for an ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON to join our thriving group dental practice located in Excelsior Springs, MO (a suburb of Kansas City, MO).  New grads are welcome to apply.  The SURGEON will be expected to do the following:

  • Perform comprehensive patient evaluations— Conduct thorough clinical examinations, review medical/dental history, and interpret imaging (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs) to diagnose conditions of the mouth, jaws, face, and neck.
  • Diagnose oral and maxillofacial pathologies— Identify and assess diseases, injuries, deformities, cysts, tumors, infections, and congenital abnormalities in the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck region.
  • Administer various types of anesthesia — Safely provide and monitor local anesthesia, sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia for surgical procedures (OMS surgeons are uniquely trained in all levels of anesthesia).
  • Perform dentoalveolar surgery — Extract impacted wisdom teeth, remove difficult/complex teeth, perform pre-prosthetic surgery, and manage related infections or complications.
  • Place dental implants — Surgically insert dental implants, perform associated bone grafting, sinus lifts, and ridge augmentation procedures.
  • Conduct corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) — Reposition the upper and/or lower jaws to correct severe bite problems, jaw discrepancies, facial asymmetry, and obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Treat facial trauma — Diagnose and surgically repair fractures of the jaws, cheekbones (zygoma), orbits, nose, and other facial bones, including soft tissue repair.
  • Perform reconstructive procedures — Rebuild facial structures after trauma, cancer resection, or congenital defects using bone grafts, flaps, and other advanced techniques.
  • Manage oral pathology — Perform biopsies, surgically remove tumors/cysts, and treat oral cancer (often in collaboration with oncologists).
  • Treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders — Perform arthrocentesis, arthroscopy, open joint surgery, or other interventions for TMJ pathology.
  • Repair cleft lip and palate — Perform surgical correction of congenital facial deformities, often as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with other specialists — Work closely with general dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, and medical oncologists to plan and deliver comprehensive treatment.
  • Provide emergency and after-hours care— Manage acute facial injuries, infections, and post-operative complications.
  • Maintain detailed records and provide patient education — Document treatment plans, surgical procedures, outcomes, and give post-operative instructions.
