Public Speaking Teacher (Fixed-Part Time)

PopSmart Academy is a Greater Seattle–area learning center dedicated to empowering K-12 students through writing, science, and public speaking programs. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Public Speaking/ Debate Teacher to help students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels develop confidence and effective communication skills. The ideal candidate will inspire students to express themselves clearly, engage audiences, and overcome stage fright through dynamic and creative teaching methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging public speaking lessons tailored to different age groups.
  • Teach students key skills such as speech writing, vocal modulation, body language, and audience engagement.
  • Provide personalized feedback to help students refine their public speaking abilities.
  • Organize and lead public speaking activities, including presentations, debates, and competitions.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages students to develop confidence in their abilities.
  • Collaborate with parents, colleagues, and school administration to support student development.

Requirements:

  • Proven ability to connect with students across various age groups.
  • Strong knowledge of public speaking techniques and effective communication strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creativity, patience, and a passion for teaching.
  • Experience in teaching or coaching public speaking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Education, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with public speaking organizations such as Toastmasters International.
  • Teaching certification or relevant credentials.
  • Experience with competitive public speaking or debate coaching.

Schedule & Compensation

~10–15 hours per week with flexible scheduling outside of key family times. Fixed part-time salary equivalent to $25–$27/hour depending on experience. W-2 part-time employee, includes WA state sick leave accrual.
