Harvest Your Energy Festival Coordinator
The City of Medford’s Office of Planning, Development and Sustainability (PDS) seeks a motivated individual to coordinate Medford’s annual Harvest Your Energy Festival under the supervision of the PDS Director. The Festival will be held in mid-October 2026, and has historically been held at the McGlynn Playground, hosting 50+ exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, and 400 attendees.
This position will also serve as an intern in the PDS Office, sharing general intern responsibilities such as answering the phone, helping walk-ins and supporting PDS Planners & Grant Managers. Working in this office is an on-the-job learning experience. Our staff truly enjoy teaching, and responsibility is given to interns over time. This position requires a student who can begin this spring, commit to at least part time in the summer, and stay through the end of fall; there may be an opportunity to extend, depending on the status of other office programs and funding.

The Coordinator will work closely with office staff and under the supervision of the Director of Planning, Development, & Sustainability. The Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Securing and communicating with exhibitors and vendors
- Keeping accurate records of communications and responses
- Coordination with other City Departmental staff
- Recruiting and organizing volunteers
- Maintaining financial records, under staff supervision
- Event promotion via social media, signage, flyer distribution, through coordination with Medford Public Schools and other community groups
- Day-of event management, jointly with the Director
- Post-event debriefs
- Experience with graphic design (Canva, Illustrator) is a plus
- Update and document event planning protocols
In addition to working on the Festival, the Coordinator will assist in general office tasks such as answering phones, assisting walk-in visitors, website and newsletter editing, office social media, and file organization. If time allows, the Festival Coordinator may work on other PDS projects.

All internships are paid, and the City is an approved Federal work-study location for Tufts University and can pursue approval for other institutions as needed. Compensation is $18/hour for undergraduate students or $20/hour for graduate students. A preference is given to those eligible for Federal Work Study.
Located in Medford's City Hall, the Office is in Medford Square, right off of I-93 and on many MBTA bus routes. Staff work in-person and it is expected that interns will work in person although occasional remote hours are possible as needed. The Office is open Mon, Tue & Thurs 8:30-4:30, Wed 8:30-7:30pm and Fri 8:30-12:30. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to support outreach and public meetings.
