- Located at Eden Prairie Art Center (7650 Equitable Dr., Eden Prairie, MN).
- Position will run June – August 2026 (8:30am-12:30 or 12:30-4:30pm). Hours vary based on experience and Art Center needs: primarily weekdays with some weekend and evening hours available.
Responsibilities
The Summer Art Camp Instructor leads classes, workshops, and special event projects for children and youth ages 6 - 16. Must be able to teach youth pottery wheel at an introductory to intermediate level and introductory level clay hand-building for children and youth. Preference given to those instructors with experience teaching ceramics to children or youth. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Prepares and provides creative curriculum and instruction for ceramics, including pottery wheel and hand-building. Works with Lead Studio Tech to coordinate firings. Instructs summer art day camps (morning or afternoon), and special programs and bookings such as birthday parties and Kids Night Out. Ensure students’ needs are met through personal recognition, creating a safe and art camp environment, individual and group instruction, and providing quality service.
- Effectively prepares the necessary resources and supplies prior to class and responds in timely manner to emails and other schedule inquiries.
- Assumes a leadership role as an arts professional through administration of all Art Center policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for participants and monitoring the well-being of all participants throughout art programs. Assists in the upkeep and general maintenance of the Art Center building. May be responsible for opening and closing the Art Center building for programs and open studio time.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
- At least one year of formal or hands-on training in ceramics. B.S., B.A., or B.F.A. degree in ceramics, studio arts, arts education or related subject preferred.
- Available to teach weekday art camps June – August required. Additional weekend availability preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with children and youth required.
- Minimum of 6 months relevant ceramics experience required. At least 1 year of relevant ceramics experience preferred. Able to create lesson plans independently for children, youth, or teens in wheel throwing and hand-building. Some equipment training or subject-matter training provided.
- Experience teaching children or youth in an educational, community or recreation setting preferred.
- Art teaching experience in a school or art center setting preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.
