RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and expertise across wildfire mitigation efforts, guiding team development, program execution, and cross-functional coordination throughout Minnesota Power and its service territory.
- Lead the development, implementation, improvement, and execution of proactive Wildfire Mitigation Plans (WMP) to reduce the risk of utility-caused wildfires.
- Monitor real-time wildfire conditions through various data sources
- Coordinate cross-functional responses during active incidents as needed.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Integrate wildfire risk into asset management and operational planning.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to promote public and employee safety.
- Lead situational awareness efforts, supports Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), wildfire encroachment operations, and Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) operations, and contribute to investigations and post-incident analysis.
- Oversee the development of standard operating procedures, training programs, and field assessments related to wildfire risk, fuels conditions, and emergency preparedness.
- Provide regulatory insight, effective communication, and strong relationship-building skills to drive continuous improvement in wildfire mitigation and response.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Eight years or more experience required.
- Experience must include a minimum of two years of experience in utility operations, wildfire mitigation, vegetation management, wildland firefighting, fire science, environmental science, meteorology, regulatory compliance, emergency/disaster management, GIS, SCADA, or related.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as occasional travel is required.
- This is an office-based position with regular travel throughout northeast Minnesota and occasional out-of-town overnight travel.
- Availability during emergency events or extreme weather conditions is required.
- This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- The expected annual compensation range for this position is $98,000 - $122,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
