AmeriCorps 4-H Summer Youth Instructor – Camp Fire Heart of Iowa

Location: Des Moines, West Des Moines, Boone, Ames, Prairie City, IA
Dates: May 16 – August 31, 2026
Time Commitment: ~33 hours/week

Earn up to $6,681.35 in total service benefits!

Living Allowance: $4,725

Education Award: $1,956.35 (can be used for student loans or future tuition)

What You’ll Do

  • Lead fun, hands-on activities for youth in grades K–8
  • Teach lessons in STEM, outdoor education, creative arts, and life skills
  • Mentor youth and build positive relationships
  • Help create a safe and engaging learning environment
  • Gain leadership, teaching, and program facilitation experience
  • You will work directly with approximately 200 youth during the summer.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 17 years old
  • Must have high school diploma or GED (or working toward completion)
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
