Fall 2026 Scene Shop Assistant WLS Level 2

I.     WLS Level: 2

II.    Description Of Duties For This Position:

1. A.Have a rudimentary knowledge of safety in all areas of the scene shop and work areas in the theatre.
2. B.Report to the Master Carpenter and/or Scene Shop Supervisor when tasks are completed;
3. C.The ability to read, understand, and follow directions.
4. D.Ability to climb ladders and lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
5. E.Take instruction in general painting (not detailed work).
6. See that the workplace and environment are clean.
7. G.Perform other duties as assigned and related to the level of experience and expectation.  

III. Learning Opportunities For This Position:

3. Little knowledge and skill with hand and power tools.

IV.  Qualifications Needed For This Position:

1. General: Patience, punctuality and reliability, well-organized, ability to relate well to others, dependability, willingness to listen, ability to follow instructions, ability to work independently, demonstration of ability to care for shop equipment and other materials, creativity in suggesting improved working procedures while still following instructions.
2. Skill:  Ability to use power tools, ability to climb ladders, lift heavy objects, and follow written and oral instructions.
3. Physical: Physical mobility and manual dexterity.
4. Personality traits: confidentiality, honesty, willingness to cooperate, helpfulness, warm rapport with colleagues.
5. Skills: ability to follow instructions and to ask questions when necessary; ability to apply and recommend guidelines when working independently; ability to provide minimal instruction concerning power equipment to staff person with less experience.
