Front End Engineer

Responsibilities:
- Design and develop front-end applications to visualise scientific and engineering data in real time, assisting the Science team with experimentation.
- Translate raw models, simulations, or measurements into accessible and interactive user interfaces.
- Collaborate with core software engineers to integrate APIs and data processing pipelines;
- Contribute to UI/UX strategy with a focus on clarity, interactivity, and accuracy of technical content.
- Maintain high-quality code through testing, peer reviews, and continuous integration.
- Document design decisions and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure interfaces meet requirements.
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, with experience in component-based UI systems.
- Experience with data visualisation libraries (e.g., D3.js, Plotly, ECharts) or custom rendering (Canvas/WebGL).
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and modern build tools;
- Understanding of scientific workflows or engineering processes and comfort engaging with technical content.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly to technical stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience with Python or Rust backends, especially for scientific computing.
- Knowledge of Jupyter, WebAssembly, or scientific data formats (HDF5, NetCDF, FITS).
- Background in dashboards, simulation visualisation, or instrument control interfaces.
