Swimming Director

Camp Nicolet seeks a Swimming Director, responsible for leading, managing, and instructing all swimming programs on the camp waterfront. The Swimming Area Director supervises swim staff, ensures safety at all times, and provides engaging instruction that helps campers progress in confidence, technique, and aquatic ability.

This position is ideal for an experienced swim instructor or lifeguard with strong leadership skills, a commitment to safety, and a passion for teaching children in an outdoor environment. The Swim Area Director works closely with other waterfront departments to coordinate schedules, special events, and overall waterfront safety. Pay is competitive and based on experience. Semi-private housing, all meals, and Workers Compensation Insurance are included as additional benefits.


The Area Director of Swimming has the following responsibilities:

• Oversee daily swimming instruction and free swim periods across core activities, electives and special events including All camp activities
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate Lifeguards and Swim Instructors                         • Collaborate with Program Director to plan and lead training for instructors and counselors and for in-services as needed
• Teach swimming lessons following a progressive skill-based curriculum
• Conduct camper swim tests, maintain accurate records, and assign appropriate swim levels
• Track campers’ progress, maintain detailed level records, and award patches as campers achieve new levels
• Develop and implement lesson plans that emphasize safety, skill development, and fun
• Ensure proper lifeguard coverage, emergency preparedness, and enforcement of waterfront safety rules
• Report any need for swim area maintenance, including docks, equipment, and safety signage to Waterfront Director or Program director

Maintain swimming related equipment including maintaining a clean and organized Boathouse, in coordination with Small Craft and Waterfront

• Lead or coordinate special swimming events such as swim meets, water games, or swimming shows
• Maintain positive camper behavior and enforce waterfront expectations. Demonstrate and encourage safety, sportsmanship, and positive conduct 

• Collaborate with Smallcraft and Water Ski Areas to support all-camp waterfront events                • Lead or assist in core, elective and special waterfront events such as regattas, paddle relays, and adventure challenges that include any small craft equipment and or skills                             • Clean up program area daily and at the conclusion of camp, including proper equipment clean up, storage and set up for family camp as needed.  

• Know, follow, & uphold all Camp Nicolet safety and emergency procedures 

• Maintain high standards of health & safety at activities for campers & Staff 

• Contribute to written & verbal evaluations and communication as requested

• Attend weekly Staff Meetings and assist with all-camp activities when needed
• Other duties as assigned within the reasonable scope of skills and position
