Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (.88FTE-7 hrs/day) 2026/27 school year

Speech and Language Pathologist 

Job Description

 

Reports To:        Special Education Program Specialist (or designee)

FLSA Status: Exempt

School Classification: Certificated

Pay Schedule: Range 5: ($36.09-$41.83) *New hires are eligible for up to 5 years of service credit (up to Step F)

Work Schedule: 180 days/11 months

Location: Onsite and Remote Office  

 

Position Summary: The speech and language pathology assistant (SLPA) assists the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing direct speech therapy services to students with speech and language disorders as well as physical, emotional, and learning disabilities according to the students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP). The SLPA will directly manage virtual and/or in-person therapy sessions for individuals and groups. The SLPA is also responsible for all manner of preparation, documentation, data collection, study material creation, and consultation, as pertains to each individual student’s IEP or the needs of the school. The SLPA will work under the supervision of the credentialed SLP and administrative designee.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provides direct treatment assistance to students by organizing and conducting individual and group therapy sessions; follows and implements treatment plans developed by the supervising SLP in accordance with student IEPs and regulatory requirements.

Schedules, confirms, cancels, and re-schedules assigned appointments; records therapy time.

Assists eligible students in the use of communication technologies (e.g. augmentative communication devices, hearing aids, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.

Conducts speech screenings without interpretation, provides assistance and support to the SLP during assessments, and assists the SLP to ensure that designated tests are administered within the required time frames.

Administers, proctors, scores, collects and/or distributes assigned written tests, including ELPAC tests; collects and compiles test data, as needed.

Assists with the development of IEP goals and objectives.

Provides assistance to educational staff as a case management team member through consultation and training during individual and group activities.

Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information needed to perform essential job functions.

Observes students, maintains detailed notes, case logs, student files, charts, graphs and other documentation to clearly summarize students’ session/lesson activities and results, and reports student progress toward meeting established objectives; distributes records as needed.

Develops and prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for speech therapy sessions, intervention services, and assessments; prepares or adapts instructional materials and/or equipment for individual student use during classes and therapy sessions.

Monitors student behavior and takes appropriate action; makes referrals to the SLP and/or school administrator in order to address student behavior issues.

Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. 

Services students in-home, if necessary

Proctoring duties as needed during testing season

 

Other Duties:

Responds to all school related communication within 24 business hours

Documents and refers to the school’s management all formal disciplinary actions involving students; supporting management with addressing and resolving complaints from students and parents in a timely manner; ensuring compliance with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)

Performs other duties as assigned



 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Experience & Education:

Associate’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology Assistant from a Board approved SLPA program

Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders desirable 

One (1) year experience working with children in an academic or non-public school setting is also desirable.

Hold and maintain valid registration as a SLPA with the State of California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.

Hold and maintain a valid California Driver’s License; proof of automobile insurance; and full time use of a dependable automobile that is insured pursuant to California regulations.





 

Other Qualifications:

State and federal background clearance (LiveScan) to work with students (Education Code Section 44237). No prospective employee can report to work without this clearance being received and Human Resources notifying the immediate supervisor of this clearance. 

Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Education Code Section 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years

Valid California Driver’s License
