Social/Digital Video Intern, Awful Announcing

Employment Type: Part-time, 10-15 hours per week
About the Role
Awful Announcing is looking for a Social/Digital Video Intern to join our podcast team. In this role, you’ll use your editorial judgment to create high-quality social media clips for our flagship podcast, The Play-By-Play, which covers the ins and outs of the sports media industry. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to break into sports media and gain professional experience at a digital media company with a large following.
What You’ll Do
- Create high-quality vertical video clips for The Play-By-Play podcast for use on TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, X, and Bluesky
- Use editorial judgment to determine which podcast segments are most suitable for social media, with an eye towards moments that will generate engagement
- Design eye-catching thumbnails using an established template for both short-form vertical videos and full-length horizontal videos
- Pitch topics to the podcast team based on metrics gathered from prior clips
- Learn various other aspects of the business as desired, including newsgathering, writing, audio producing, social media management, and more
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years of experience creating or producing vertical video
- Familiarity with social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube
- Experience using short-form video clipping or editing software
- Ability to work weekday afternoons or evenings (three days per week, 3-5 hour shifts)
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience creating or producing vertical video for a brand
- Familiarity with automated short-form video clipping programs like Opus
- Interest in sports and/or sports broadcasting, the business of sports, and the media coverage around sports
