Job Description:
Interns will be assigned to specific departments based on their interests and area of study; specific job functions will vary based on the department focus with interns being assigned a primary project to complete during their tenure. As an Information Technology intern at Discount Tire, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced professionals and gain practical experience in a fast-paced, fun, and challenging environment. You will have access to senior leadership and visibility to multiple facets of the business of Information Technology, with a program mission of “providing high potential students’ knowledge and experience to guide them in future career decisions.”
Additional program specific activities will provide team building opportunities and the requirement to present to senior leaders within the IT business segments.
Departments & Corresponding Projects:
- Software Engineering – Defect Fix and Enhancements for our point of sale system and in-store experience
- Quality Management – Enhancing digital and enterprise systems.
- Product Systems – SQL Queries, Documentation, and Integration
- Artificial Intelligence – Integrating Agentic AI with ServiceNow. Design AI-driven framework within ITSM.
- Automation of our Service Desk - Enhancing the efficiency and modernizing our Service Desk Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will vary based on the department and project assigned. Some common tasks across all departments may include:
- Provide technical support to internal users via phone, email, and in-person.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Document technical procedures and processes.
- Work on software development, automation, testing, data analysis, or reporting tasks depending on the assigned department.
- Collaborate with team members and business leaders to drive project success.
Note: Specific responsibilities will depend on the department to which you are assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
Skills and qualifications applicable to all interns, with department-specific variations for certain roles:

Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, ReactJS, HTML, and CSS (for applicable roles).
- Familiarity with version control tools like Git or Bitbucket (for applicable roles).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and tools (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, Splunk, Nessus) for IT Security & Risk roles.

Collaboration & Communication:
- Ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Adaptability & Learning:
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing environments and evolving team needs.

Technology Tools:
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, Pandas, and Matplotlib (for applicable roles).
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other productivity tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Completion of a minimum of 2 years of coursework with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software systems.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- 5 Days In-Office M-F in Scottsdale, AZ
