Development Engineer

Position Summary:

A developmental, hands-on position in the field of Industrial Combustion R&D. Bloom Engineering Company operates an extensive Product Development Facility at Pittsburgh location, serving our worldwide markets. The Development Engineer tests combustion components and related equipment for process furnace applications. Current development emphasis is on ultra-low emissions and thermal efficiency improvements, as well as development of products for new market areas. Typical duties include design of testing apparatus and procedures, prototype design, operational testing/data analysis and reporting. Project assignments are made with the intention of exposing each engineer to a wide range of products and applications. Moderate travel (including international) is required for field commissioning services and liaison with Bloom offices worldwide. Career paths lead to the Applications Dept., Engineering Dept., Project Management, Production, or Sales Engineer positions. 

This is a full-time, in-person position. Candidates must reside in the area or be willing to relocate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Testing of industrial combustion burners
  • Coordinating with technicians and other engineers to setup tests
  • Recommend design modifications for existing products
  • Meet project target dates and provide reports to engineering as needed
  • Troubleshoot problems in manufacturing, assembly, and field use of components
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications
  • Performs initial drawings and drafting of mechanical parts and assemblies, and other components
  • Part and assembly design, from concept to detail design to manufacturing introduction
  • Assist the service department with furnace startups and field troubleshooting
  • Give customer demonstrations of test setups

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
