Day Reporting Community Service Officer

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this job is, under the direct supervision of the Day Reporting Program Director and the indirect supervision of the Deputy Court Administrator, to assist the Community Service Coordinator in the planning, organization, development and coordination of all community service work sites for the Stark County Day Reporting Program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program and the practices of the Court of Common Pleas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Community Service Coordinator in the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of the community service component of the Day Reporting Program. Assist in the implementation of changes as needed to improve this aspect of the program.

Assist in the development, review and maintenance of policies and procedures that govern the community service aspect of the program; ensure that all aspects of community service are conducted according to program policies and procedures.

Participate in program planning, improvement and evaluation; assist in the development of goals and objectives.

Provide leadership and supervision to community service clients; assign and delegate work duties and responsibilities.

Assist in the transportation and coordination of transportation of community service clients to work sites; monitor clients while at various work sites.

Maintain an atmosphere conducive to the program philosophy and in regard to the dignity and rights of the clients in the program.

Establish and maintain viable and effective relationships with the Court, jail, probation/parole officers, Prosecutor's office, Public Defender's office and private attorneys.

Establish and maintain viable and effective relationships with social service and other community agencies; develop innovative projects and viable work sites for clients; assist with the establishment and maintenance of a large resource base of work sites.

Assist the Community Service Coordinator with contracts for work sites; address concerns and issues immediately with work site supervisors.

Assist in the assessment of client ability to perform community service work; work in collaboration with the treatment team to develop the community service aspect of the individualized treatment/service plan; match work site to client need and ability.

Document all client information according to program policies and procedures; report community service compliance to referral source as required.

Report any violation or sanction considerations to the Day Reporting Program Director.

Monitor and supervise community service clients to assure that established safety procedures and regulations are being followed in the use of equipment and supplies.

Maintain the confidentiality of all program and client information.

Attend and participate in workshops and seminars to keep abreast of current changes in Day Reporting programs and community service.

Represent the program in the community; provide community education; conduct public relations/speaking engagements on behalf of the program; participate in meetings as required.

Attend Court sessions as requested or required.

Handle a caseload of assigned clients; complete all paperwork including case reviews and terminations as required and in a timely fashion.

Report any problems or recommendations to the Community Service Coordinator and Day Reporting Program Director.

Other related duties that may become necessary or as directed by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May be indirectly responsible for volunteers and/or students assigned to the Community Service component of the Day Reporting Program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or social services or equivalent education and experience preferred.

Two (2) years experience in criminal justice or social services preferred.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, clients, the Court, community agency representatives and the general public.

Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate these into existing practices.

Must be knowledgeable of court processes and procedures.

Must possess the ability to assist in the development and coordination of the program.

Must possess a working knowledge of community resources; must be able to assist in the development and implementation of work sites in conjunction with community resources.

Must be able to communicate policies, procedures, regulation, reports, etc. to clients, community agencies and the Court in person, on the telephone and in writing.

Must be able to manage time and responsibilities effectively.

Must maintain current certification in CPR, First Aid and physical crisis intervention.

Must be culturally competent and sensitive to the needs of various populations.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (With or without a reasonable accommodation)

Must be able to operate office equipment such as fax, copier and computer.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.

Must possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.

Must regularly tolerate moderate noise levels and occasionally tolerate loud noise levels; must occasionally work in outside weather conditions.

May be exposed to communicable diseases.
