Position Summary
Horizons at Rowland Hall is a summer camp initiative designed to support public school students in Title I schools in mitigating their summer learning loss. The social-emotional counselor within the Horizons at Rowland Hall program will work directly with students and teaching staff to support the social and emotional needs of students during the 6-week summer camp, running from June 8-July 17th. The counselor will be the primary point person for any social-emotional needs that arise for students and will offer both group and individual consultations as needed. The counselor will work closely with the lead teacher, teaching assistant, and intern in each classroom to ensure that the environment meets the needs of all learners.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Help provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive classroom and program environment for a rising 2nd-grade student cohort
- Design and implement social emotional curriculum that is developmentally appropriate to help students proactively build social skills
- Support emotional dysregulation and behavioral needs of about 10-12 students in each classroom, ensuring conditions are optimal for learning
- Accompany students on scheduled field trips
- Coordinate with lead teachers, teaching assistants, and interns to support student’s social emotional needs on an ongoing basis
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator to identify any needs or challenges students are experiencing as well as strategies to offer support
Skills and Requirements
- Background in child development, including appropriate licensure in social service work
- Ability to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment
- Sense of humor and approachability
- Enthusiasm for working with young children of all levels and backgrounds
- A commitment to equity and inclusion and demonstrated competence in culturally responsive counseling and pedagogical practices
- Some experience working in a summer camp environment is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work through emergencies
- Bachelor's degree required
- Fluency in Spanish preferred

Additional Information
This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position, reporting to the Director of Equity and Inclusion and the Director of Community Engagement and Impact and under the direct supervision of the Horizons Program Coordinator. The start date is June 8, 2026, and the position will conclude on July 17, 2026. There will be a mandatory staff retreat and training on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Compensation will be offered in the form of a stipend of $5,000 for this position.
