Position Summary:
Northern Michigan University’s Career Services department is seeking a creative and motivated student to fill the position of Student Photographer. The successful candidate will be responsible for capturing professional headshots of students, staff, and faculty for use in various career-related materials and platforms. The role also includes basic photo editing responsibilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality images that align with the university's professional standards. Camera, lighting, and backdrop are provided by Career Services.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct professional headshot photo sessions for students, staff, and faculty members.
- Collaborate with Career Services staff to schedule and organize photo sessions efficiently.
- Ensure the proper setup of equipment and lighting for portrait photography sessions.
- Edit and retouch photos to meet professional standards.
- Maintain organized digital files and deliver final images in a timely manner.
- Assist in the development of a visual library for Career Services promotional materials.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in portrait photography, ready to innovate and suggest improvements to the program.
- Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment, providing excellent service to individuals being photographed.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment as a student at Northern Michigan University.
- Strong interest and passion for photography.
- Basic understanding of portrait photography techniques, including lighting and composition.
- Experience with photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom).
- A portfolio demonstrating photography skills and previous work.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Working Conditions:
The Student Photographer will primarily work within the Career Services department and may be required to travel to various campus locations for on-site photo sessions. The position is part-time, with flexible hours to accommodate both the student's academic schedule and department needs.
