Entry Level Controls Engineer

Entry Level Engineer Skills and Requirements.

 

Total Automation Group, Inc. (TAG) is an international leader in government and private perimeter (pedestrian and vehicular) security automation systems. Our global efforts include sales, service, systems design, manufacturing, and installation. With the current state of the world and with 20+ years of development and implementation experience in anti-terrorism access control point systems (ACP), our group is continuing to expand.

In response to the continued and projected growth, Total Automation Group, Inc. (TAG) is looking for highly motivated and fast learning engineers. The individuals must possess superior individual and team skills, be self-motivated, and retain strong work ethics. Our teams are well experienced, trained, and highly motivated to remain the leaders in our industry. Our image is essential, and our engineers must be able to consistently communicate, advise, and represent our company/teams in the presence of the largest global clients.

 

Below are estimates and some but not all of our requirements/expectations:

  1. Experience in the following is a must:
    1. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar
    2. Microsoft Word and Excel
    3. Individuals must at least be able to pass a security background check at the “Secure” level
    4. Proficient technical writing and documentation skills
    5. Basic experience with common hand tools and electrical tools (digital multimeter)
  2. Experience in the following is a plus:
    1. PLC programming
      1. Programming in ladder logic preferred
      2. RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 is a plus
    2. HMI programming
      1. FactoryTalk View Studio ME for PanelView.
  3. FactoryTalk View Studio ME Station for PC.
    1. Must be willing and able to learn and implement TAG style programming methods.
    2. Design and implementation of the following:
      1. Ethernet networks
        1. Ethernet copper network components
          1. CAT6 cable, RJ45 connectors
          2. Basic switch hardware
          3. Fiber optic cabling and connectors
        2. Basic TCP/IP addressing
        3. Basic Ethernet switching concepts
      2. Motor Control Concepts
        1. 3-phase motor power
        2. VFD control
      3. Servo System Concepts
        1. Servo drives, servo motors
        2. Encoder feedback


 

 

Other desirable skills:

  1. Board level repair
  2. Other PLC brands and platforms
    1. Mitsubishi
    2. Omron
    3. Siemens
    4. Automation Direct
    5. Robotics systems design and implementation
    6. Microcontroller systems design and implementation
    7. Past or current (private or government) security level status
    8. Team leadership skills
    9. Machine learning applications.
    10. Industrial rated safety systems design and implementation.
    11. Hydraulic systems and troubleshooting.
    12. Basic site work, installation, enclosure/conduit work experience.
    13. Basic panel shop work experience.
    14. 3D CAD design experience.
    15. 3D printing experience.
  3. Travel:
    1. Travel is expected to be 25-30%, but can vary based on workload, customer demand, personal & team efficiency, installation & site conditions, etc.
    2. The ability to effectively design and plan the implementation of TAG ACP systems directly affects the travel time required.
    3. Travel includes domestic and some international.
      1. Historically, 80-90% is domestic.
      2. International travel is typically not solo and to safe areas.
  4. Pay:
    1. Compensation is based on the experience, efficiency/results, and attitude of the person/employee.  Entry level engineers may start out around $60k or above, depending on relevant experience.
