Corporate Communications Intern

Reports to : Senior Communications Coordinator

LOCATION: Cary, NC. This role will follow a hybrid work schedule

 

Job Accountability/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and produce content for the public-facing website and blog; internal website, newsletter, blog; and social media platforms
  • Track analytics and compile reports that provide data-backed strategy recommendations
  • Assist with content planning and copyediting
  • Capture photos and videos at company events for use in multimedia content
  • Edit photos for publication – primarily limited to basic color balancing, resizing, cropping, etc. 
  • Support Technical Writing Team and Marketing team with isolated requests
  • Assist in set up and provide day-of support for projects that use outside vendors, such as video shoots and photoshoots
  • Perform research for projects and prepare reports as needed

 

Knowledge, Skills, abilities/minimum requirements/competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Readiness to learn about new industries
  • Rising junior or senior, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field, or recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency with AP Style, website design, and social media platforms
  • Photography and videography experience a plus
  • Familiarity with graphic design software a plus (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)

 

Education, experience, certification/training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, journalism, public relations or equivalent.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, social media applications; 
  • Proficiency in graphic design and/or photo editing software, and SharePoint; 
  • Ability to learn new software applications and technologies quickly is required.
  • A portfolio demonstrating writing samples or design work is highly beneficial.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work: Assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing.
  • Keyboarding: Primarily using fingers for typing.
  • Talking: Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others).
  • Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Visual: Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such as:  preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction).
  • Environment: Because the requirements of this position require frequent, often informal collaboration with other Railinc colleagues and external stakeholders, and to maximize the development of the skills and responsibilities essential for this position, Railinc expects that the work required of this role be performed predominantly in the office consistent with Railinc’s in-the-office work policies, as communicated by Human Resources and/or Senior Management. Any individual variations on in-the-office work policies will be reviewed by Human Resources on a case-by-case basis. As work is performed predominantly within an office setting, there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat, cold, noise, etc.).
