About the Program

The DSSF RISE Internship Program (Real-world Internship, Skill-building, and Experience) is a paid, hands-on professional development opportunity designed for college students interested in nonprofit leadership, community partnerships, public service, and social impact.

Interns gain meaningful, resume-building experience while supporting programs that serve individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Kern County. This program emphasizes mentorship, professional growth, and real-world contribution.

Position Overview

The Partnership Development & Community Impact Intern will support the Developmental Support Services Foundation (DSSF) and Kern Regional Center (KRC) in outreach, program development, and operational initiatives. Interns are placed based on skills and interests and may work within KRC Intake, KRC Outreach, or DSSF internal operations.

Key Responsibilities

Support community outreach and partnership development efforts

Assist with the Family Resources Guide and other outreach materials

Provide administrative and organizational support to KRC Intake teams

Support technology, digital organization, and media/testimonial projects

Participate in intern meetings, coaching sessions, and professional development activities

Qualifications

Currently enrolled at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) or another local college

Strong communication and organizational skills

Interest in nonprofit, community service, or public administration

Ability to commit 20 hours per week for 3 months

Schedule & Compensation

Part-time: 20 hours/week

Flexible schedule aligned with academic commitments

$20/hour, paid internship
