Position Summary:

This recruitment will be used to fill two Forest Engineering Student Assistant position (part-time during school terms, full time summer and breaks) for the College of Forests at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position is for a Forest Engineering Student Assistant with the OSU Research Forests. This job is a great opportunity to be exposed to forestry operations and engineering while providing for application of skills learned in the classroom.

Position Duties:

 

• Forest road and infrastructure inspection

• Creating maps, analyzing LiDAR data, and updating layers in GIS

• Contract inspection of road maintenance work

• Data entry and analysis

• Utilizing Roadeng to assess and design roads

• Surveying

• Use of GPS devices and tablets in the field

• Minor maintenance of gates, signs, and drainage structures

• Assisting other forest staff as needed

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

 

• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

• Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

• Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

 

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the https://internationalservices.oregonstate.edu/ (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

 

Additional Required Qualifications:

 

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others.

• Transportation to and from 8692 Peavy Arboretum Road, Corvallis, OR.

• Physical and mental capacity to work safely in adverse conditions in the woods on uneven terrain.

• Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) Summer Term 2025 and part-time 2025/2026 academic year

 

Preferred (Special) Qualifications:

 

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others.

• Transportation to and from 8692 Peavy Arboretum Road, Corvallis, OR.

• Physical and mental capacity to work safely in adverse conditions in the woods on uneven terrain.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule:

No prior forestry or engineering experience required.
