Position Summary:

The Automation Project Support Engineer plays a key supporting role for our engineering and automation initiatives. This position reports to a senior engineer and focuses on tasks that are critical to successful projects yet currently consume engineering capacity. This role blends technical drafting, permitting & compliance , time studies, field coordination, and internal project management. 

The Automation Project Support Engineer supports the discovery and early implementation stages of projects at Warehouse One while gaining hands-on experience with material handling systems, AutoCAD, SAP Business One, and internal web and KPI tools.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Engineering and Drafting Support:

  • Prepare and revise AutoCAD drawings for warehouse layouts, plan & elevation views ,storage rack systems, conveyor lines, and permit submittals.
  • Create preliminary concept drawings for proposals and internal reviews based on engineering direction.
  • Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, and revision history for assigned projects.

 

Time Studies and Process Documentation:

  • Conduct time studies on internal operations such as fabrication, warehouse processes, and installations.
  • Collect, organize, and summarize data to support process improvement and automation discovery.
  • Document current workflows, inputs and outputs, and exceptions to support future automation design.

 

Field and Customer Liaison:

  • Attend pre-install and post-install site visits to complete site surveys, verify dimensions, and document field conditions.
  • Capture photos, notes, and measurements and relay clear information to engineering and project management.
  • Serve as a professional point of contact for customers and installation crews during site visits.

 

Permitting and Compliance Support:

  • Assist in preparing preliminary permit packages including drawings, documents, and technical data.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather information required for permit submissions.
  • Track permit status and maintain organized records for each project.

 

Internal Project Management and Coordination:

  • Support internal web and KPI related projects by tracking tasks, documenting requirements, and coordinating testing.
  • Maintain project trackers, meeting notes, and action item lists for engineering and operations initiatives.
  • Coordinate with operations and supply chain teams on vendor options, lead times, and cost comparisons to support optimized vendor selection.

 

Lean, 5S, and Continuous Improvement:

  • Assist with internal 5S audits and follow up on corrective actions in fabrication, warehouse, and office areas.
  • Help document standard work, visual controls, and improvement ideas.
  • Support collection of metrics for internal dashboards and reports.
  • Use lean thinking and optimization techniques to solve external projects.                           

 

Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel/Python for data collection and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD for 2D layout and detailing work.
  • Basic understanding of warehouse or industrial layouts and architectural plans.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP Business One preferred  and SQL Server database.
  • Exposure to time studies, process engineering mapping, or Lean / 5S concepts preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clear technical documentation.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Architectural or material handling layout experience is a strong plus.
  • PMP/CAPM or similar project management certification is a plus.
  • Autodesk/SolidWorks or similar design certification is a plus.
