Peer Coach starting Fall 2026

OVERVIEW: The Academic Achievement Center creates diverse, innovative, and student-centered learning opportunities and personalized academic support that encourage all students to define and find success at UNCG and beyond. Through active collaboration with students, faculty, and staff, the AAC recognizes and builds upon students' strengths to cultivate learner confidence and academic self-efficacy.

We offer a diverse environment that is respectful, nurturing, and challenging for all students and staff. While supporting our students’ development, this position is also intended to provide an invaluable educational component to the Peer Coach as well. Peer Coaches in this position strengthen their communication strategies (individual, small-group, in-person and online) and develop an in-depth understanding of academic and resilience strategies.

POSITION: The AAC includes professional staff, graduate assistants, and undergraduate students who work collaboratively to accomplish division and office goals. In this position, the Peer Coach will be supervised by Erin Mason and the AAC Graduate Assistants.

The Academic Success Coaching Program helps students gain competence and confidence in academic and resilience skills through sessions led by Peer Coaches. Peer coaches are assigned to courses to engage students with reminders and motivational messages, conduct one-on-one and small group peer coaching sessions, and refer students to available campus resources. An array of coaching techniques are used to help students develop academic skills, recognize challenges, set goals, and resolve them independently. Peer coaches collaborate with faculty to identify students for coaching outreach and support. Participation is required for weekly in-service training to develop academic skills and coaching strategies. Peer coaches maintain accurate records of their outreach, communication with instructors, and coaching session notes. Paid training is provided on the job.
