Estimating Intern (Summer 2026)

SUMMARY: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Intern to join our Evansville, IN team. This internship provides hands-on experience in construction estimating, helping to prepare cost estimates, sub-contractor estimates, analyze project specifications, and assist in bid proposals. The ideal candidate is eager to learn about cost analysis, construction materials, labor costs, and project management.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The roles and responsibilities of an Estimating Intern may include, but are not limited to, the following items:

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Assist in preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand project scope.
  • Gather and analyze data on materials, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information.
  • Help develop bid packages and prepare documents for proposal submissions.
  • Utilize estimating software and Excel to calculate and document project costs.
  • Support the estimating team in cost comparisons, budget analysis, and project evaluations.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate estimates.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized database of costs, vendor quotes, and historical pricing data.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software (such as Bluebeam, SmartBID, and OST) is a plus. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of construction materials, methods, and processes is preferred.
