Reports To: Network Operations Supervisor
Position Summary
The Network Engineer II is a mid-level technical position responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing DayStarr’s core and access networks. This role requires hands-on experience with real-world network infrastructure and the ability to independently execute complex configurations and escalated troubleshooting.
While not a supervisory position, the Network Engineer II is expected to operate with increasing independence, support cross-functional projects, and contribute to shared team knowledge. The role works closely with the Network Operations Supervisor and peers in engineering, voice, DevOps, and customer-facing departments to maintain service quality, operational consistency, and team alignment.
Essential Functions
- Configure and deploy customer- and core-facing network devices, including routers, switches, and fiber transport gear
- Monitor and maintain system availability and reliability using Zabbix and vendor-specific SNMP/MIB integrations
- Respond to and resolve Tier 2/3 network issues, including BGP sessions, VLAN routing, CGNAT behavior, and provisioning errors
- Assist with onboarding and maintenance of Adtran Mosaic One, including provisioning workflows via AOE and tools like Frontline, Device Manager, and Subscriber Insight
- Analyze network performance and assist with capacity planning for IPv4 and IPv6 deployments
- Troubleshoot and document issues related to Adva XG116Pro, XG418, and FSP108 platforms
- Coordinate with Voice, DevOps, and Customer Operations teams for escalated service-impacting issues
- Collaborate with other engineering staff to troubleshoot, document, and improve network workflows
- Create and maintain internal documentation (e.g., diagrams, SOPs) in Confluence and support project workflows in Trello
- Participate in on-call rotations and scheduled after-hours maintenance windows
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in:
- BGP, VLANs, static routing, and dual-stack (IPv4/IPv6) environments
- Adtran provisioning systems (Mosaic One)
- Zabbix or equivalent SNMP-based monitoring tools
- Adva optical transport systems, especially XG116Pro and related hardware
- CGNAT environments using A10 Networks
- Experience working with physical cabling, optics, and customer-side handoff gear
- Ability to read and produce network diagrams; familiarity with addressing schemas and hardware documentation
- Basic familiarity with Linux command-line environments; scripting familiarity (Bash, PHP, Ansible) is a plus
- Comfortable using Trello, Confluence, and Slack for project tracking and documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and vendor interactions

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree or technical certifications preferred
- 3–5 years hands-on experience in ISP, fiber, or enterprise networking environments
- Entry-level certification (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA) preferred; higher-level certifications a plus but not required
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds
- Must be able to navigate tight spaces and climb ladders in both indoor and outdoor environments
- Comfortable working in inclement weather and high-stress conditions
- Ability to see and hear clearly in noisy, technical environments
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
- Ability to use own vehicle or other means of transportation to visit work locations as needed.
