Are you an archaeologist interested in protecting California’s cultural and natural resources?  An Environmental Scientist position in the Division of Science and Engineering within the Department of Water Resources, based in West Sacramento with free parking and a flexible schedule, may be just what you’re looking for!  The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative multidisciplinary team and be responsible for cultural resources support services for the operation and maintenance of the State Water Project, including planning and conducting archaeological field surveys and assisting with natural resources surveys.  Duties also involve Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license implementation, flood protection activities, construction monitoring, working closely with Tribes, federal partners, and other State agencies; and preparation of documentation for compliance with CEQA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other State and federal environmental regulations.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required to travel to various job sites, including SWP facilities and other locations throughout the State, and to attend meetings and conferences.

 The incumbent must be able to meet the demands of field work on land and in water; must be able to swim at least 50 yards and stay afloat at least 10 minutes; must be able to move equipment or objects weighing up to 40 pounds over rugged terrain.
