Student Worker LMS Auditor
Student Worker
LMS and Digital Learning Auditor
We are looking for a student worker who is familiar with digital learning and has an educational background and interest in healthcare sciences or medical education. The student worker in this role will review, audit, verify, and document all of our digital media content (for example, Panopto lecture recordings) in Moodle for all of the courses in our required curriculum.
Job Duties:
1. Verification and Auditing (Core Tasks)
- Verify Video Origin: Cross-reference Panopto recordings with the previous
year's folder to identify if content has been "reused/copied" or if it is a fresh
recording.
- Calculate Total Contact Hours: Document the exact duration of each lecture
and calculate the total "video runtime" for each course module.
- Identify Broken Links: Click through all embedded Panopto links within the
LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc.) to ensure students won't hit "Access
Denied" or "Video Not Found" errors.
Check Folder Permissions: Ensure that the Panopto folder permissions have
been updated so the current semester's students can actually view the content.
2. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain Course Inventories: Use a spreadsheet (Excel/Google Sheets) to log
video titles, lengths, and "Original Air Date" for every lecture.
- Flag Outdated Content: Create a "Flag for Review" list for the supervisor when
videos contain outdated syllabus info, old dates, or references to retired
software/textbooks.
- Audit Accessibility: Check for the presence of auto-captions and flag any
videos where captions are missing or significantly inaccurate.
3. Content Organization
- Standardize Naming Conventions: Rename video files to follow a consistent
format (e.g., AFCP1_WK01_Lecture01_Intro) to improve searchability and
maintain iSEEK searchability.
- Archive Old Content: With review and oversight from the supervisor, move
videos identified as "duplicates" or "outdated" into a designated archive folder to
declutter the main Panopto view.
- Thumbnail Management: Ensure each video has a clear, professional-looking
thumbnail or starting frame rather than a random mid-sentence freeze-frame.
