About JFREJ
Jews For Racial & Economic Justice is the home for Jewish New Yorkers to organize alongside our neighbors and allies to fight for a New York where every community has the freedom, opportunity, and resources to thrive. Rooted in our Jewish values and our diverse histories, and with creativity, vision, and a lot of hard work, we’ll halt our city’s transformation into a playground for the wealthy and build a real democracy that works for all of us. Together we will dismantle the systems and institutions that perpetuate racism, inequity, and injustice, and grow something new and beautiful in their place.
About this position
JFREJ is seeking to hire an intern to assist with our Development work, especially in executing our summer membership drive, recruitment and retention of donors, and JFREJ’s annual gala. This is a remote-hybrid position, with the opportunity to work from JFREJ’s office in the financial district as desired.
The Intern will work on a variety of projects including:
● Assisting with the summer membership drive by phonebanking, helping to manage JFREJ member participants to take part in the drive, and potentially owning a discrete project for the drive.
● The critical development tasks of calling to thank and solicit JFREJ donors.
● Being an important point of contact with new and renewed members, helping them to get more involved in JFREJ’s organizing and work.
● Ideally, the intern would attend a weekly communications/development meeting and a bi-weekly (twice a month) committee meeting of members who work on grassroots fundraising: both great opportunities to learn about communications and development work.
Qualifications:
- Alignment with JFREJ’s mission and values
- Comfort talking on the phone
- Detail oriented and demonstrated follow through
- Ability to use or quickly learn to use google drive/docs/sheets & Slack
- Excited to learn about grassroots fundraising, communications and the intersection of fundraising and communication
As this is an internship, we are not requiring prior development experience to apply. We believe entry level positions should be open to people who are passionate about our work and eager to learn, no matter their past experience.
At Jews For Racial & Economic Justice, we practice hiring with intentionality and an understanding of how many factors, such as race and class, decrease equity in hiring interns. We strive to build a different hiring process that is more equitable and transparent.
Reports to: Sara Goldberg, Development Manager (and close coordination with Shifra Sered, Deputy Director)
My (Sara) first interaction with JFREJ was attending the first national Jews of Color Convening hosted by JFREJ in 2016 which introduced me to a community I didn't even know I deeply needed. I interned at JFREJ before joining the staff full time in 2018 as a Development Associate. Now as the Development Manager, I'm looking forward to working with someone who's curious about development/fundraising work, grassroots fundraising, and ready to bring more people into this vibrant Jewish JFREJ community.
