Paid Marine Science and Engineering Internship

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University (HBOI) has a 10-week paid internship program. This program has existed for over 40 years and is intended for undergraduate students currently enrolled in a full-time program who have completed at least the equivalent of two years of college and are seeking a four-year degree, as well as currently enrolled graduate students and graduating seniors who have been accepted and are pre-registered for a graduate program.

The internship provides hands on experience in a research environment in areas that include aquaculture and stock enhancement, Biomedical and biotechnology research, marine ecosystem health, ocean dynamics and modeling, ocean engineering and technology and outreach and informal education. The deadline for applications is March 1st. The program starts on 5/18/26 and ends on 7/24/26 and will take place at the HBOI campus in Fort Pierce, FL. 

Scope of Internship: Interns will be assigned to a mentor in an appropriate area of interest.  A project of mutual interest to the intern and mentor will be established, and a plan of action developed. Interns are not required to take any prescribed courses, nor are they required to provide any services to the Institution in return for their internship. Interns receive orientation and a presentation workshop. At the completion of the program, each intern is expected to submit a comprehensive written report on his or her project and give an oral presentation as part of the annual summer intern symposium during the last week of the program

Salary: Salary is $7,000 for the 10-week program and is based on full time participation. Salary is subject to applicable taxes.
